Simply Spray is a spray-on fabric paint. As with all products, if you use if correctly and as intended it will serve you well. If you decide to try something different and adapt it for your use, it may or may not work well. A bit of experimentation is always good!
So, how do I use it correctly, you ask?
Your fabric should be dry, prewashed, light-colored cotton. Why pre-washed? Because when you buy anything new it has sizing in it to keep it looking nice in/on the shelf, hanger or package. If you do not wash it before you use Simply Spray some of the paint will stick to the sizing and wash out. Then you will be sad. Simply Spray in transparent, so if you spray it on anything other than a light colored fabric you will have the base color showing through. (By the way, because it is transparent you can "mix" colors by layering them.)
When used correctly, it is permanent and washable.
What's so great about it? It is non-toxic and non-flammable. Simply Spray is an aerosol - but does not contain any harsh ingredients or inhalants! Safe to use with the kids!
No heat-setting required! BUT (Yes, there is always a but) wait 72 hours after painting before washing the garment. Turn the garment inside out when you wash it. Do not use fabric softener.
My can won't spray anymore. This sucks!
DON'T PANIC! You might have pulled the trigger back to hard. If the trigger is pulled back too hard, it can "stick". Simply put your index finger behind the blue trigger an push it forward. A "pop" or "click" should happen. If you push on the trigger a few times, it should start spraying again.
If you leave your can with the trigger out of position, the gas with seep out, rendering the can unusable. Think of the paint as a can of whip cream… if you only pull lightly on the nozzle- the gas will seep out.
Sometimes paint might build up in the nozzle after it is used. We suggest that you pick off any excess paint from the nozzle opening (a stright pin or push pin can be very helpful!) and then flip the can upside down and spray to clear the passage. The force of the spray should clear the way! The manufacturer also suggests storing your used paints upside-down in water if you will not be using them right away (but I will admit that this seems a bit crazy to me)
Use found objects as a mask (shells, leaves, cardboard shapes). You can use Simply Spray with stencils but you will get crisper edges by using the Stencil Spray
You can get a faux tie-dye look by crumpling the fabric up and lightly spraying the top. Re-adjust the fabric, recrinkle it and spray again.
You can layer colors, but allow each color to dry for about 10 minutes before spraying on top of it.
There are 14 colors of Simply Spray and 2 colors of Stencil Spray. Stencil Spray has a “glimmer” look that shines, looks and feels like silkscreen when it’s dry! Simply Spray is soft when dry!
