Swatch Policy--
We know that sometimes you need to see the exact color of a fabic, or feel it to know if it will work. Swatches are the fabric stores answer to that problem. Swatches are small pieces (normally around 1" x 2") that we can provide. On large prints, you will only get a portion of the total design, but when you combine that with the pictures and info on our website you should have a pretty complete picture. We can send you up to 5 swatches at no cost. If you are interested, use our handy swatch request form.
As far as we are concerned, lightweight PVC is a fashion and costuming basic.
That's why we carry it! It has an itsy-bitsy amount of stretch, but I wouldn't consider it stretchy. It is super shiny and kind of looks like liquid paint! The knit back is soft to the touch, and doesn't require a lining (although if you are really going for glam a little extra special lining wouldn't hurt). Although this fabric screams out to be made into a form-fitting garment, PVC also has wonderful drape. You could easily make a bustier or a flowing cape out of it (or perhaps both).A couple of words about sewing PVC
- Holes are permanent! PVC(and other similar fabrics) are very unforgiving when it comes to mistakes. Instead of basting you might try a double sided basting tape. (shown on our notions page.
- Needles-- use a new "sharp" needle in a size 11 or 14.
- Use polyester thread
- Given the chance, PVC fabric will stick to itself (right side to right side). If you are in a warm or humid climate you might try putting a thin paper (newsprint, tissue paper) between the two right sides while sewing it. Also you may find that the face likes to stick to the presser foot. If this is a problem you could try using a stabilizer like Tear-Easy or get yourself a teflon foot for your sewing machine.
PVC fabric is 56" wide, $13.69/yd.
Note: Fabric is sold in 1/4 yard increments, with a 1/2 yard minimum per fabric. Orders under 1/2 yard will automatically be increased to the minimum.
1/4= .25
1/2= .5
3/4= .75
A word about colors!
Monitors vary, eyes vary, dyelots vary. We have tried to put a good representation of the colors on the website, but they are not exactly the same. If you are trying to match something ask for a swatch.
