Swatch Policy--

We know that sometimes you need to see the exact color of a fabic, or feel it to know if it will work. Swatches are the fabric stores answer to that problem. Swatches are small pieces (normally around 1" x 2") that we can provide. On large prints, you will only get a portion of the total design, but when you combine that with the pictures and info on our website you should have a pretty complete picture. We can send you up to 5 swatches at no cost. If you are interested, use our handy swatch request form.

Our fur monster watches over us, making sure that nothing bad happens to our fur.

This page has all of the shorter fake furs on it. These fake furs are all under an inch.

Patterns and solids, bright and natural looking... its all here.

All of the furs on this page EXCEPT the flat pile furs at the very bottom are either acrylic or modaacrylic. They can be washed by hand or in the machine on gentle. Do not put them in the dryer unless you would like a melted mess. The flat pile furs are polyester and can be washed and dryed by machine. You may notice that washing the furs may change the hand (texture and over all look) of the furs. This will be much more obvious on the longer, shaggier furs. If you want to retain the same texture and look it is advised that you dryclean your fake fur. As always, washing a sample ahead of time is advised.

    • The fake furs are not returnable. If you are trying to decide between a couple of different furs, why not ask us for some swatches. We can send you up to five swatches at no cost. They are big enough to get a feel for the texture and a better idea of what color it is. Just use our Request Form .

    Note: There is a 1/2yd minimum cut for each fur. After that you can buy in 1/4yd increments. Orders under 1/2 yard will automatically be increased to the minimum.

    A note about colors!

    We have spent a lot of time choosing swatches that appear to be close to the actual color on our screen. The color YOU see is affected by 3 things--
  • your screen-- things like age, and color balance
  • your environment-- if you are sitting by a window, if you have natural light, if you are in a dungeon
  • your vision-- Color is a very subjective thing. It is influenced by things around it as well as your interpretation of it. 8% of males, and 1% of females (myself included) are at least partially color blind (many don't even know it). Use the color swatches as a guide. Remember we can send up to 5 swatches at no cost so you can see the real deal. Just use our handy Request Form .

    • Quantity discounts!


    If you are purchasing 5 or more yards of a fur you are eligible for the quantity discount on that piece of fur. The discount is 20% off of the everyday per yard price. In the ordering portion of each fur you will see a green highlighted column. If you are purchasing more than 5 yards of a fur (that means one color, one style) order from the green highlighted box to get the discounted price.

    Chinchilla- This looks like the fur from a brown velvet chinchilla. It is a cool brown color with alternating bands of a dark brown which blend into the lighter shade. Each stripe is about 3" This is a super short (just under 1/4") super slick fur.

    Zig Zag-- This is one of the softest furs I have ever felt! The pattern is a very warm burnt caramel color fur that is slightly shorter than the warm beige background furs. There is about an inch between the zig zags...

    Shallow Zig Zag-- This is a fur that is both visually appealing and a wonderful tactile experience. The base is black, the accent furs are a taupey grey color.

    Hare- This is a short 1/8" fur. The base is fabric and the root of the hairs are a nice charcoal grey. The tips of the furs (if you can have a tip when it is only 1/8" long) are a really light grey.

    Grey Stripe fur--This is a very flat, kind of shiny grey fur with 1/2" striped running across it. Between the stripes there is empty space where only the black mesh backing shows. This is a really nice, mature twist on the whole faux fur thing. Would be great for a scarf with a bright colored backing. 60" wide, Under 5 yards $35.98/yd, 5 yards or more

    Burro- This is a beautiful multi-tonal grey fur. The base pile is a light grey. There are light grey hairs that are quite soft and about 3/8" long. There are longer (1/2") shiny black hairs creating the dark and light effect. Even though the long hairs are back I think that the overall look of the fur is grey.

    Roof rat- This is a short fur with a dark charcoal base, short fuzzy charcoal furs and longer light grey hairs. The longer hairs are about 3/8" long. This is similar in look to the grey frost teddy bear shown on the long furs page.

    High-Low Giraffe-- This is one of the furs that you will pet and say, "hey, that's cool." The "spots" are smooth and sleek. The area between the spots is a shorter pile creating the hi-low effect. The spots are between 1 1/2" and 3".

    High-Low Splotches- This is another one of the furs that has different lengths of furs creating a wonderful tactile experience. It is a super-smooth fur. The splotches have an area of white with a little tuft of light grey fur in the center.

    Baby Lynx- This is a really soft cat print. The base of the fur is sand. The spots which create one of the stripes are bark brown. The rest of the stripes are a golden straw color.

    Dark Baby Leopard-- This is your standard cat with black spots. The background is taupe. The spots range in size from little 1/2" splotches, up to 1" markings. This is a short pile, plush fur.

    Snow Cheetah--This fur has a white background with irregularly shaped grey spots. Although this is a cat print, I think it could also work for Ermine fur or an understated dalmation.

    Snow Leopard--This is a really nice fur with a background that alternates in stripes from a creamy white to tan and back again. On top of this background are the leopard spots in a taupe.

    Colored Leopard- This is an amazingly soft fur. It is also silky smooth. The markings range in size from 1" to 2". In addition to the amazing base fur, and incredible markings, this fur also has longer hairs that come in tufts than line up if you smooth them flat. On the olive green the tufts are light olive. On the midnight blue the tufts are white.

    Cheetah- the background of this fur changes gradually from brown to rust and back again. The spots on this fur are larger than on the baby leopard. This is a short pile, plush fur.

    Polar Bear--This fur is a bit longer than cubby bear, but is not quite as dense. This fur has a dense lower pile with longer furs on top. I would consider this to be a short haired shag. It is not a really soft, cuddly fur-- but I'm not sure that Polar Bears are known for being cuddly.

    Grandma's Old Couch- Have you ever sat on a couch and thought about how comfortable yet ugly it was... but it leaves you with a warm feeling in your heart? Well this is that fur. It is 1/4", very soft, quite smooth and the color of milk chocolate.

    Cubby Bear-This fur is just under an 1" long, and is really dense. These are teddy bear kind of colors. In most cases, there are a couple of colors of fur blended together to give a slightly textured look.     Shaggy Teddy Bear- There are a million teddy bears out there that have been well loved for years so they are no longer as silky smooth as they once were. But they are well loved so that makes the fact that they are a bit disheveled ok. The fur is 1 1/2" long. It stringy and a but clumpy. Available in medium brown, mahagony brown or shimmering white

    Grape Kitty-- This is an amazingly soft fur-- so soft you may want to make a stuffed kitty cat out of it just so you can sleep with it every night! It is a really short shag. I like to think that is the younger sibling to the Punky Muppet furs since it has that look, just shorter. And the color is just divine!

    Pelted Mink- This is one of the few furs that we have that is very traditional. This fur is "pelted" which means that there are indented lines every 1 1/2". The fur is very similar to the cubby bear fur-- medium length and fairly coarse so it has nice body.

    Seal-- These furs are 1/2" (short but not too short), dense and kind of slick looking. The fur is much softer that then plush fur found at the top of this page. They have that "I just got out of the water so I'm slicked back" look.

    Striped Seal - Ok, this may be my new favorite fur. This is a very slick fur with 1/4" stripes of black on black. The stripes alternate with a shiny, smooth, matte black stripe and then slightly coarser, shiny black stripe. The effect is subtle but beautiful.

    Sparkle Seal-- This is a seal fur with a bit of pizazz. The base fur is either sand or jet black. The fur is nice and dense and cushy. The punch comes with the little pieces of lurex-- shiny metallic pieces. It is just a bit of sparkle but enough to really catch the eye.

    Super Seal-- This is without a doubt one of the softest and cushiest furs we have. I wouldn't be surprised if you purchase some and find yourself just rubbing it on your face. It is a little longer than the seal fur and a little denser.

    Two toned teddy- These fur are about the same length as super seal. The fur is about 1/2" long if you make it stand up but it likes to lay flat. The brown/white combo is a bit longer-- closer to 1" (Perhaps it is a lazy fur by nature?) I rubbed the fur against the grain for the photo so you could see the base color better.

    Berry Stomp-- This is a really beautiful abstract style fur. The background is a light terracotta color. The pattern has a bright red and darker wine color marbled throughout. After much thought we came to the conclusion that this is what you would get if you put some berries on some fake fur and jumped up and down.

    Paisley-- yes, you read correctly! This is a really cool paisley print fur. The paisley pattern is a nice wine color with wheat colored accents. The base fur which is shorter and peaks through from time to time is a licorice black. This is a one of a kind fur that needs just the right person to appreciate it. Perhaps you are that person!

    Argyle-- A traditional print in a non-tradtional place! This is a really graphic fur with lots of personality. The argyle "square" is 1" high. The fur is just under an 1" long but lays nice and flat.

    Vintage Stole--This is a very short, slightly napped in a chocolate brown that is slightly darker in places. It is pelted so that the nap runs a couple of different ways creating light and dark spots. It is surprisingly soft and looks well loved.

    Bubble Fur--This is a really theatrical fur with bubbles ranging in size from 1" to 2 1/4". They kind of remind me of pebbles. In between the bubbles there are some places where there is no fur and you see the black backing of the fur.

    Zebra-- Who hasn't seen a zebra running down the road... do I really need to explain what a zebra looks like? I don't think so. This is a short pile, plush fur.

    Brown Zebra-- This fur has the black zebra markings but with a medium brown background color. In my short online research, I have decided that this animal MIGHT not actually exist. But that doesn't mean the fur isn't cool! This is a short pile, plush fur.

    Big Tiger--This is a really large scale tiger print. The background is a warm camel color, the pattern is black. There are three repeats of the pattern across the width of the fur. This is a short pile, plush fur.

    Saskwatch--This is a wonderful fur that doesn't look like any animal I've ever seen and yet it looks kind of realistic. The pile is grey with black spots that are about the size of a dime sprinkled about. The base is burgundy, but you don't see it unless you run your hands through the fur. It does give it a warmer feeling though. This is a short fur.

    This grouping of flat-pile furs are ultra short and smooth. Unlike the rest of the furs on this page, these are made of polyester. They are machine washable and machine dryable. These are the same prints that are shown on our website with the plush fabrics

    Flat-pile Cow--This is an ultra-low loft, flat-pile fur. It is slick and fuzzy, but not fluffy. The pelting is a strip of fuzz going alternating ways (looks more real you know!). This would be a great fabric to use for a cow costume for a child-- they wouldn't overheat as much as in a plush fur costume and you wouldn't be as likely to lose them in the bulkiness. A combination of nylon and polyester this fur is machine washable and dryable.

    Flat-pile Pony--This is an ultra-low loft, flat-pile fur. It is slick and fuzzy, but not fluffy. The pelting is a strip of fuzz going alternating ways (looks more real you know!)     Flat-Pile Tiger--This is an ultra-low loft, flat-pile fur. It is slick and fuzzy, but not fluffy. This would be the PERFECT fabric for a caveman or cavewoman outfit! Because this fur is polyester, it is machine washable and dryable. It has a wavy pelted design woven in where the nap of the fur reverses.

    Fake Fur Trims!

    These are great to add to an existing garment. If you backed it with something, they would work for a strap on a bag as well. The narrower style is 2" wide, the wider version is 4" wide. The wider version would work well as a binding if you folded it in half. The edges are not finished, but because of the way the fake fur is manufactured it will not fray. You may lose some of the fur off the edges, but you shouldn't lose too much.

    Depending on how you were using the trim you could use a fabric glue, snaps, velcro or simply a line of stitching to attach the trim to your project.

    		Need lots of little pieces, but don't care what they are? When we discontinue furs (or when they are disontinued on us!) we end up with lots of little extra swatches. We cram these into a sandwich size ziplock bag and sell them. People who work with kids, or make puppets, or collage-a-holics love these! These are bags of assorted swatches-- no picking or choosing (sorry)

    Pound of Fur Squares
    		Are you craving an assortment of fur? At the end of the roll, we are often left with smallish pieces which won't stay rolled. We cut these into squares (rectangles actually). Each piece is about 13" x 12". Sometimes they are narrower and longer. Sometimes they are long skinny "tails". In this assortment you will get a pound of assorted fur pieces-- the equivalent of about 2/3 yard of fur if you pieced them all together (which might look a bit odd...) You will get assorted furs-- no picking or choosing (sorry). These fur squares may be any of the furs on our website. If you are buying other fur, we will TRY and choose ones which you did not purchase-- no promises though.

    What is a swatch? A swatch is a small piece of fabric about 1" x 3". It can help you decide if a certain fabric will work for your project. You can use it in the same way you use one of those paint chip papers you get a the hardware store. It gives you an idea of what the fabric looks like, and you get to feel the texture. We try our best to describe the fabrics well, but somethings are difficult to put into words.

    		This set has just the animal print furs that we carry. You will get one swatch of each fur along with a price sheet for these furs. There are close to 30 swatches in this set.     Basic-- This set is just the solid basic furs that we carry. Some of the furs included in this set are: shag, plush, seal, fox and cubby bear. Some of the furs such as the cubby bears are multi-tonal but overall they are a solid fur. You will get one swatch of each style along with a list that details the other available colors.
